Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Revision.

T: Last period, we’ve learned the passage “Which English”. Now, by using a sentence from the passage, can you tell me how many varieties of English are there in this world?

Ss: You could say that there are as many varieties of English, as there are speakers of it.)

T: Then, how many varieties of English are mentioned in the passage? What are they?

Ss: Four: British, Australian, Jamaican and Singaporean.

T: In the passage, we’ve learned the differences between these four Englishes. Do you still remember the difference? Now let’s do some listening practice and check whether you can tell them apart.

Step 2. Listening. Material 1:

Activity 1: listen to the conversation and complete the table.

Activity 2: Listen again and fill in the blanks.

MAN Excuse me, what time does the train for Cardiff leave?

SP It’s already left, mate.

MAN What?

SP That’s right. You’ve missed it. It left at 10:15.

MAN But I’ve been here since 10 o’clock!

MAN The bus is late. It got held up in the traffic. You just sit in the shade here. The bus won’t be long now.
