My teaching material serves as the third part of this module, entitled “A man can be destroyed but not defeated”excerpted from THE OLD MAN AND SEA. This article mainly tells us the character of Santiago fights with the sharks to protect the magnificent marlin and how the writer uses vivid descriptive writing skills to show the personality of the character.
The teacher needs to guide the students to learn the writer’s writing skills.Analysis of learnerThe novel “the old man and sea” is not strange to some of the students, but this passage with many unfamiliar vocabulary may set an obstacle to learn the descriptive writing skills and make it difficult for the students to understand the novels deeply –the sublimation of the novel ,especially for the ones who have limited vocabulary. With the guidance of the teacher, the students are expected to understand the whole passage and learn to write a passage by using vivid descriptive writing skills. Teaching aimsKnowledge Aims
