With the title Sherlock Holmes, Module Three focuses on the introducing the story of Sherlock Holmes and other types of crime novel. My teaching material serves as the second part of this module, entitled “From Whodunnit? to Hard-boiled: The Strange World of the Crime Novel”. It is an expository article mainly tells the characters of three different genres of crime novel, including amateur detective novel, private investigator novel and police officer novel.
The teacher needs to guide students to find out the characters of each genre and compare the differences between them, in order to help students to build a comprehensive understanding of crime novel.

AnalysisThe topic of crime novel can definitely trigger much response from students. But this long passage with many unfamiliar vocabulary may set an obstacle to comprehension and cause attentiveness problems to the students, especially who knows little about crime novel.
