This lesson is from Unit 1 School Life of book one for high school students in the version of Oxford University Press, and the title of the reading passage is: School Life in the UK. The topic of this unit is the school life, and the function of this unit is to get the students to be familiar with the high school life. This reading lesson is the key part in this unit and the main objectives are to make the students comprehend the passage, learn about the school life and develop the skimming and scanning abilities, laying a solid foundation for the future learning.
Analysis of the learning condition
The students are from grade 1 in Genshan High School. This is the first unit of book one in grade 1, so along with what they have learnt in the middle school, they have gained some necessary knowledge and ability to prepare themselves for this lesson. Students have learnt some knowledge about the school life, which helps the students direct to the objectives in this reading class. However, some students may have the problem of laziness and lack of confidence to answer questions and think deeply in the reading class. Therefore, the teacher had better deal with the new words and expressions explicitly and design questions with proper difficult level to help them learn more and think more.
