Collect some examples from some individual students. Or the teacher can give some examples. From these examples we can see adjective, noun, v+ing, to do can be used attributively.

a pretty girl ,a hardworking student

a book shop, a girl friend

a swimming pool, a shopping basket

have much homework to do, have no friends to chat with

Step 2. Presentation and practice

1). Present the students several simple sentences and tell them how to match two simple sentences into one using attributive clauses

(1).I am reading a book. The book is about Bill Gates.

(2).He is a teacher. The teacher teaches us Chinese.

(3).I don’t like the man. He is smoking.

____________________________________

(4).Where is the picture? You bought it last week.

Rules: when the antecedents are somebody,

we use the relative pronouns: who ,that or whom

when the antecedents are something,

we use the relative pronouns: which, that

2).Give students more sentences and tell them how to identify the functions of the relative pronouns

This is a dream which/that will never come true.

This is the card which / that I’ve just received.

This is the film star who / that is very popular in China.

The man ( who/ whom/ that ) he described just now is a famous writer.

The boy whose father is a policeman is my classmate.
