6.Teaching procedures and ways
My teaching procedures and ways are as follows:
Step1. Greetings and revisions
T: Good morning, Class. What did we talk about last class. (ask a student to answer)
(I think it is necessary to consolidate what the students learnt last class. It will make students into class quickly)
Step2. Lead in
(I think this step is very important. It can stimulate students’ interest and help them focus on the topic. They will listen carefully in class. It can also get them to talk feely next)
T: Today let’s come to unit 2, the topic of this unit is about “ Growing pains. Because of the high pace of the society, growing pains of the teenagers has become a hot topic that all the society pay attention to. this is still a topic that the students have a hankering for discussion to deal with things ,while as a parent ,they often want to give as much love as possible to their children , no matter whether this kind of love is good or bad to their children. Therefore, the contradiction occurs, and growing pains occur, too. Now I ask you some questions:
Q1, Do you have a happy family?
Q2 Do you love your parents?
Q3, Do you like to stay with your parents at home?
(Encourage students to express their opinions)
T. I see, may be most of you have some trouble in communicating with your parents, it seems there are many problems between two generations .Can you tell me what kind of problem you have with your parents? (Encourage students to talk freely)
T, You can express yourselves freely and clearly. It is true that some teenagers and their parents can’t understand each other sometimes. They experience growing pains when growing up and couldn’t find a way to solve it.
Step2. Description of the pictures
T. Please open your books and turn to page 21 to read the instruction and the pictures . Are you familiar with the situations in the pictures?
T. I will give you five minutes to describe the pictures with your own words. You can have a discussion with your partners first, using your imagination and any descriptions are acceptable. I divide you into 4 groups, each group talk about a picture. Are you clear? (Give the students five minutes to discuss the pictures, during the discussion, I will go into the students to help them)
T:. Time is up, Are you ready? The first group, Please choose a student who can represent your group to discuss the picture. (and group 2, group3., and group4. Perhaps some students feel a little difficult because of their poor English level or they are too shy to speak in class or they lack the confidence. As a teacher, if a student can’t use proper adjectives to express themselves freely, I will give some hints when necessary or help them go on. If a student is nervous, I will make him or her relaxed and help to say the first word of a sentence. I think a teacher should be tolerant and tell students not to worry about making mistakes in expressing. If the teacher and students can talk each other heart to heart, it will reduce the students’ pressure and give them more confidence. Thus, they are brave to speak and don’t feel shy or nervous any more)
