Teaching difficulties:

The difficulty will lie in the way of asking for and giving advice. It is not easy to complete the tasks in a proper way.

Emotional aims:

Glad to help and wise to offer help;

Show sympathy if necessary;

Be active and optimistic.

Teaching methods:

Communicative approach; CAI; induction deduction method.

Step 1 Duty Report

As usual, a student will do a 3-minute duty report.

Step 2 Lead-in

Find a proper question from the student’s report and lead in the topic of ADVICE. Tell the students the 3 tasks today:

a. Asking for advice;

b. Giving advice;

c. Writing a letter of advice.

Step 3 Task 1—How to ask for advice

Two elements: Stating a problem and asking for advice.

I enjoy watching English films and listening to real English songs. But it takes a long time. What do you think?

Our school has a foreign teacher. But I’m shy and can’t speak to her. What should I do?

Step 4 Task 1—How to reply

Condition 1: I am a 16-year-old girl weighing 70 kg. I take little exercise and love eating fast food. Now I often catch cold and can’t concentrate in class. What should I do?

Condition 2: I want to remember all the new words. I write them down, but I forget them quickly. How can I learn them by heart?

Reply: I am sorry to hear that. /…

Tip: Show sympathy.

Team work: Reply by using different sentences one by one in a team.
