Teaching procedures and time allotment:

Stage 1: Lead in (3 minutes)

Step 1: Review

The teacher is leading the learners to review the pictures that were seen last time, and to find out what makes people good-looking, as well as what is the man’s problem.

(This step is designed to get students involved in the classroom and be aware of the content which they will learn about today.)

Stage 2 Pre-reading (8 minutes)

Step 1: Brainstorm

The teacher asks the students to think of some ways of losing weight. Then the learners discuss with their partners about the advantages and disadvantages of each way.

(This step is designed to give students more background information of the topic, as well as a natural transition to the text.)

Step 2: Prediction on the title

The teacher asks the learners to look at the title, and predict what will be talk about in the text.

(This step is designed to give the students a chance to predict the content of the text to help them better understand the general meaning.)

Stage 3 While-reading (18 minutes)

Step 1 Prediction on each part and checking

The learners are asked to predict on each part and then they will read the e-mails in order to check their predictions.

(This step is not only designed to train the learners’ ability to predict paragraph by paragraph, but also to train their ability to find out the main idea.)

Step 2: Scanning

The students are required to fill in the blanks according to the text.
