StepⅠ.Warming up
Sharing my traveling experiences with my students, I intend to let Students realize very naturally that the topic of this period is traveling. Afterwards, I greet with them and express that there are many good places for traveling. In order to arouse their interest, I will let them guess where I am from. I will give them some clues and help them to get close to the answer. They are triggered to know my hometown and I will share a short video with them. Since more and more foreigners are attracted to my hometown, I want to do something to help my family who run hostel and restaurant in the ancient town. Is there any good ways to attract foreign visitors to know my hometown and book my family inn? This brainstorm pave a way for the next stage where we are going to learn how a travel leaflet of Shangri-la.
StepⅡ.Reading
In this part students are enabled to go through the passage quickly with a light music on. They are going to deal with two tasks. One is about matching while another one is about filling in blanks. It is not so difficult for them to finish the task. By doing this, they will be able to know the structure of a travel leaflet and acquire some useful expressions and sentences patterns to introduce a place. I will deal with this part within 10 minutes. In my opinion, Group work should be given enough time for them to produce when dealing with the period of project.
Step Ⅲ. Task
This part is mainly about a task of making a travel leaflet about Longchuan village, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Sanya, and Yellow mountains. As for step 1. It is about planning. We should know clearly about the structure of a travel leaflet consisting of a place to go, location, transportation, history, sights and weather. Step 2 is about preparing, we are going to discuss about the six places from the above 6 aspects. This part aims at providing some necessary information for students, with necessity. In his way, it will be easier for students to imitate and quicker to present their versions of travel leaflet.
Step Ⅳ. Group work
When we teach Project, we should allow students to work in groups. There will be five or six groups in the class. They can work in pairs and then present the final work together. Through cooperative work, students will be able to make a travel leaflet in English, which help them recognize the practical value of learning English.
Each group will get a piece of paper, a sticker, some colorful pens and photos of Long chuan village. Some possible expressions will be printed for them as a reference. A full preparation for them will shorten the time of producing. Group work combining pair work enables every student to take part in making a travel leaflet. During the time, I will give them some instructions if necessary. Each group should have a group leader.
StepⅤ. Presentation
This part is about presentation. The group leader or volunteers will come front to present their travel leaflet. They are encouraged to take turns to talk about each section of their leaflets. Different groups talk about different sections so that all students could appreciate a complete one by working in groups. We can select one or two well-organized sentences to share to other students. Their work should be praised with applause. In this way, students are able to gain a sense of achievement.
Step VI. Homework
