Step 1 Greetings and lead-in
Ask students:
Do you like stories? Are you fond of telling stories? Let’s hold a storytelling competition to choose the best storyteller.
Step2 Review
Have students retell the story Fog so that they will have an idea of how to make up a story.
Compare passages of two different versions to help students use conjunctions, adjectives, adverbs and surprise endings to make their stories better.
Step 3 Preparation
Students make up their own stories. Students are free to ask for help in this process.
Step 4 Presentation
Ask students of different groups to present their stories.
Step 5 Enhancement
Judges vote for the best storyteller and assess students performance from three aspects: collaborative performance, problem-raising and problem-solving performance and their output. Draw a conclusion that life is a story to encourage students to find the beauty and charm in life.
Step 6 Homework
Read The Gifts of the Magi by O. Henry and take notes of the expressions that they like most.
Write a short story about the storytelling competition this afternoon.
