二、Teaching important and difficult point:
How to guide students to express themselves in the discussion.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Brainstorming
Starts the lesson with two questions: 1) What’s your mother tongue? 2) Can you speak any other languages? Then show them the picture of “the wall of love”. After that, present “新年快乐” in five languages, if possible , teach students to read them. Get students to think over other ways to greet people.
Have students discuss other methods of communication; Offer students some pictures about different gestures and postures and let them guess the meaning behind these postures. Let students enjoy a short video of Mr. Bean, who has a lot of funny postures.
Step 2 Emoticons The Wechat emoticon is presented on the screen. Ask students “We often see this while chatting on line or in our text messages, what do they stand for? Students are encouraged to utter their ideas freely. And the teacher really should appreciate their answers and the opportunity to learn from the students.
Step 3 Sign language Tell students that a language is not only something that can be spoken or typed. Show them a picture of sign language on the book. Present more pictures of sign language and get students to guess their meaning. Tell students that the same sign means differently to the people all over the world and offer some examples.
Step 4 Introduction of Braille Ask students to feel the dots on the cash in China and tell them that the raised dots are Braille, then offer some information about Braille and its inventor.
Step 5 Communication between animals Let students enjoy a video and raise the question “Do animals have their own language to communicate?” Let students express their idea about communication between animals.
Step 6 Listening practice Ask students to discuss some methods to improve English. Then have students do the exercises in Parts A and B in Listening on Page 104 of the workbook. This will give them some information about how to improve their English.
Step 7 Homework: Have students read the article on Page 102 of the workbook. They will learn more information about the language of bees.
