Teaching procedures:

I. Lead-in

1. Get the students to watch a short video which introduces the teacher’s life, and then read the following sentences from the introduction. Present the task: To use what- clauses to describe your life.

1. I was born in what is called “Tibet of Changsha”.

2. What makes me happiest is to help my students make progress.

3. After work, I can find the time to do what I like.

4. I’m no longer what I used to be.

5. I have no idea what my future will be like, but I am happy with what I have now.

II. Observing & Learning:

Get the students to observe the following sentences and tell the usage of what in each sentence. Give necessary help if needed.

1. I have no idea what my future will be like.

2. They stole what little money we had.

3. What makes me happiest is to help my students make progress.

4. I’m no longer what I used to be.

5. The city is different from what it was ten years ago.

6. The number of the students in our school is ten times what it was in 1997.

7. After what seemed like hours he came out with a bitter smile.

8. I was born in what is called “Tibet of Changsha”.
