Because of lacking writing material, Students in senior 1 is weak at writing. Besides, they don’t know how to support their opinion and express it clearly.
Teaching Aims:
1. Listen and get the information about the meaning of common gestures in America.
2. Survey the classmates and get to know the meaning of common gestures in China.
3. Organize the information collected in the listening and survey into a report on body language.
Important points and difficult points:
1. Improve students’ writing ability.
2. Make sure students get enough in-put.
Teaching method: Task-based learning
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead -in
Greet the class and ask students a question “What is body language?” Then show them some pictures about body language on the screen to help them know the four kinds of body language.
Step2: Predict Information
Train students to predict an answer and how body language is used in different countries by listening.
Q: Where are you from? name of a place
How old are you? a specific number
How long have you learned English ……. A time period
Why would you like to wear a uniform…… a reason/ reasons
task1: Play the tape. Decide if the statements are true or false according to the interview.
Check answers and correct them if the statements are false.
task2: Filling in a chart
Tell students that they are going to listen to the recording of an American university professor teaching her class about common gestures (in the pictures). Ask them to focus on what those gestures mean in America.
Step3: Group Work --- surveying your classmates
Students are asked to complete the questionnaire by finishing writing the questions in the light of the given situations.
