Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming up:

1. Self-introduction: T uses different body languages(wave hand, shake hand, hug) to greet Ss, inspiring different feelings in Ss’ mind.

2. Video: T shows a short video Secrets of Body Language to elicit the topic of today: body language.

Step 2: Information about body language:

1. Definition: Ss show their opinions on body language. And then T summarizes:

Put simply, body language is the ________ element of communication that we use to reveal our true _________ and _________. It includes gestures, facial expressions, postures and so on.

2. Significance of learning body language: (blank filling)

When we are able to "read" these signs, we can use it to our advantage. For example, it can help us to understand the __________message of what someone is trying to say to us, and to enhance our _____________ of people's reactions to what we say and do.

We can also use it to adjust our own _____ ________ so that we appear more positive, engaging and approachable.

Step 3: Check Ss’ understanding:

1. A test: T show pictures of different body language and Ss guess the meanings they convey.

Step 4: Application:

1. How to read negative body language:

Negative body language includes:

Folded arms, tense facial expression, body turned away from you, and poor eye contact.

(1)Difficult Conversations and Defensiveness

Being aware of these signs can help you to adjust what you say and how you say it, so you can make him feel more at ease and receptive to your viewpoint.

(2)Avoiding Unengaged Audiences

When you notice that someone is disengaged , you're in a better position to do something about it. For example, you can re-engage her by asking her a direct question, or by inviting her to contribute an idea of her own.
