Step 1: Greetings.
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step2: Lead-in
Present students with several pictures related to famous figures in Chinese history. Such as: Qin shihuang and Wu zetian to arouse students’ interest.
Q: Who are they?/ What did they do?
Step3: Play a video about Alexander the Great. Ask students to use adjective words to describe him.( strong, handsome, wise, brave, humorous, ambitious, strong---minded)
Step4: Read Ancient Greek statue found in Xinjiang and try to get the main idea of each paragraph by doing a match game.
Para1. the discovery of a statue showing a result of Alexander the Grate’s influence
Para2. Alexander’s early life
Para3. Alexander’s victories and death
Para4. Alexander the Grate’s influence on the world
Step5: Listen to the tape and answer the following questions.
1. Where was the statue discovered in Xinjiang probably from?
2. When did Alexander become a Greek king?
3. What was his ambition?
