The students have known something about advertisements in their daily life but they do not often talk about advertisements in English.
Part 3 Teaching steps
Step 1 Greetings
Greet the whole class.
Step 2 Warming up
I will show an interesting commercial video to my students. Therefore, the video will offer students a relaxing atmosphere and stimulate students’ interests in English learning.
Step 3 Lead in
I will ask my students two questions:
Do you like advertisements or not?
Where can you find advertisements?
My purpose of this step is to increase the students’ interest of advertisements.
Step 4 Speaking
ask students to open their books to Page1, let the students have a look at these four pictures and discuss them in groups of four and try to answer the three questions On Page 1:
Which advertisements make you want to buy a product or service ? Why?
Which advertisements make you think about social problems? Why?
Do you believe that advertisements tell the complete truth? Why or why not?
Step 5 Consolidation
ask some students to tell me about the advantages and disadvantages of advertisements and retell the difference between two types of advertisements.
Step 6 Homework
ask my students to design an advertisement in English by themselves and discuss them in groups.
