grasp the feature of an expository writing and learn how to read it by identifying the introduction of the subjects, the supporting details and the conclusion.
Teaching important and difficult points:
Students are expected to improve their reading ability on reading expository writing better;.
Students should be involved in discussion about advertisement in English.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead in
Show students two advertisements posters, asking them some questions about it to make them more familiar with what an advertisement is.
Step2: Fast reading
1. Have students have a quick look at the article and ask
“What’s the purpose of the article?”
“What type of article is it?”
So, students will be able to find the feature of an expository writing.
2. Lead students to find out the structure of the article based on its feature and headings.
Step3: Careful reading
1. Read para.2 and answer “What is an advertisement?”
2. Read para.3 and answer “Does an advertisement tell people the complete truth?”
“What’s the structure of the paragraph?”
Then, students are expected to conclude within each section, the same structure exists.
3. Read para.4 and answer the following questions
What’s the subject?
What information supports the idea?
What is the conclusion?
Step4: Post-reading
Discussion
Are advertisements necessary in our lives?
