How to improve their reading ability through teaching activities
How to let them gain some insight into advertisements and help them deal with advertisements in their daily life
Teaching Procedure:
Step One: Leading-in and Warming up
T: (Greet the students as usual) Show students two short videos about two different ads. Then enter warming up part with several interesting questions.

Step Two: Key words learning
(Ask Ss to explain the new words one by one)
Step Three: Reading Strategy
T: Since this is a text which aims to tell us something we are not so familiar with, it uses some method. And we ought to know what it is. An expositary article has its own special format---Introduction, Body part with many examples and facts to support its idea, Conclusion.
Now, we will use this method to see what is inside the text.
Step Four: Comprehensive reading(Tape recording is divided into 4 parts and play it one by one.)
Part 1 the first para---one choice question
What is the fuction of the first Para? Conclusion/ Introduction?
Part 2: What is an advertisement? Prepare some True or False questions fr Ss.
Part3: Does an advertisement tell people the complete truth? Design a grammar blank filling for students
Part4: Public service advertisements(PSAs) 3 easy questions for students
Ss: … (Ask them finished it individually)
T: Great! Now I think most of you have got a better understanding of the article. Next let’s find more examples and facts about commercial ones and PSAs in the relative lines in the text.
Ask students to list them as many as possible to better understand the method used for expository writing and the difference between commercial ads and PSAs.
Step Five: Consolidation---Conclusion words for each part
T: Now you have read the article comprehensively. I think most of you have no difficulty in understanding it. Can we have a go at retelling the article using our own simple words one para by one para?
