Teaching Procedure:
Step One: Leading-in
T: (Greet the students as usual) Show two pictures and ask : What did you see just now? Do you like advertisements? Where can we find advertisements in our daily life? As we all know, advertisements are playing an important part in our daily life. Today we will learn more about ads by reading a passage called Advertisements. Please look at the title and tell me: What might be talked about in the article?
Ss: … (Any possible answers are acceptable)
(This step is to help them predict the contents of the passage which is of great help to improving their reading comprehension ability)
Step Two: Listen and fast reading
T: Very Good! Now let’s read the article to check whether your prediction is correct or not. First of all, please open your book to Page 2. Go through the three questions in part A and then listen to the tape to find the answers to the questions:
1. What do ads try to persuade people to do?
2. What does PSA stand for?
3. What do PSAs aim to do? (the questions are shown by using multimedia)
(Remind students to use skimming and scanning skills to focus on and identify the information needed to answer these questions. Let them pay attention to the three subtitles in the passage which can help them find the information they want. )
(Encourage them to give their answers in their own words.)
