The analysis of teaching material.

This part is selected from the grammar part of unit 1, Advance with English module 4. This part aims to teach students how to change direct speech into reported speech. They should also learn to use it in oral English.

The key point of this class is make students master the ways of changing direct speech into reported speech. The difficult point is how to change direct speech into reported speech correctly.

The analysis of students:

Student have already learnt what the direct speech is and what the reported speech is before, but they don’t know how to change direct speech into reported speech correctly.

As to English grammar learning, many students consider it difficult and boring. Teachers should encourage students and evoke their interests in learning English grammar.

The analysis of teaching methods.

Based on the analysis of teaching material and the analysis of students, the double activity (teacher-students, students-students) teaching method, the situation teaching method and the cooperative learning method will be involved in class.

The analysis of teaching procedures.

1) Step one:reviewing and leading in

Review what the direct speech is and what the reported speech is. Use situation teaching method to lead in the topic: how to change direct speech into reported speech. Have students look at the picture on the computer scream and imagine they are doing the things the picture shows.

2) Step two: reading and thinking

Have students read the key points on page 10 of students’ book four by themselves. Make them pay attentions to the changes while we change direct speech into reported speech. They should try to answer the question: how to change direct speech into reported speech. What id more, they should make a conclusion about what they have learnt by themselves.

Step three: discussing

Students will be divided into six group. They are required to have a discussion about the question below for about five minutes. They can learn from each other and figure out the question together.

Step four: presentation

A small competition among groups will be held in class. After the discussion, each group will be encouraged to share the ideas in class. They should express their opinions as well as analyze the example sentences.

Step five: making comments and drawing conclusion

Each group can make comments on other groups answers. The teacher are required to help students figure out the whole knowledge structure and make a conclusion at the end of the comments.

step six: doing some exercises

Have students do some exercises to consolidate the knowledge and check whether they have mastered the knowledge.

Assign more exercises for students to consolidate the knowledge.
