Learn to use reported speech in statements, questions and imperative sentences.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

The short dialogue is used to tell students what direct and reported or indirect speech are.

Step 2: Look and see—changes in sentence structure

First ask students to compare the sentences in direct speech and in reported speech, and find the difference between them. Let students learn that we can change direct speech into reported speech by changing what has been said to an object clause or an infinitive phrase.

Step 3: Practice

变人称

1. She?said.?"My?brother?wants?to?go shopping?with?me.?”

→She?said _______ brother wanted?to?go shopping?with ________.

2. She said to me, “ You play basketball better than me.”

→ She told me that _______ played basketball better than _________.

3. He said, “She will come to have a long holiday with us.”

→He said?that ________would come to have a long holiday with __________.

二.变句子结构

①陈述句

用连词that引导,that在口语中常省略。主句的谓语动词可直接用引语中said, 也可用told来代替,注意,可以说said that, said to sb that, told sb. that,不可直接说 told that

He said, “I have been to Japan.”

He said to us that ________________________________.

2. She said, “I'll give you an exam.”

She told us that __________________________________.

陈述句式中也可用不定式短语

1. “We must not give up in the face of pressure!” she said.

She encouraged us __________________________________.
