《Task(1): Writing an advertisement: Skills building 1 and 2》最新教案优质课下载
2. retrieve information from given non-continuous texts;
3. make suggestions and informed decisions in daily life;
4. make a bar chart.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Look at P13, M4 U1. Students are asked to complete a bar chart. Tell the students that a bar chart is a non-continuous text. Explain to the students what the non-continuous texts are and show them some examples to help with the understanding.
Continuous texts (连续文本) are organized in sentences and paragraphs. A sentence is the smallest unit.
Non-continuous texts (非连续文本) present information in other ways, such as in lists, forms, graphs, or diagrams (Kirsch & Mosenthal, 1990).
2. The purpose of reading non-continuous texts is to understand, use, reflect on and engage with written texts, so that we can get the information we need and the knowledge to participate in society. Generally, reading to learn and reading to use.
Step 2 Reading strategy
1. An example from Module 2 Unit 1 P 16.
A school survey about students’ hobbies and interests
(1) Task: Read the pie chart and find out facts.
Facts:
1. Playing sports is the most popular activity. 53% of the students like it.
2. The second most popular activity is surfing the Internet, with 36% of the students doing it.
3. 8% of them enjoy reading.
4. Only 3% of them like dancing.
(2) How can you get the information?
We get our information by paying attention to three elements.
Words or descriptions around the charts are very important because they tell you information of the charts, such as the subjects, notes, units of measurement, figures etc.
Diagrams/charts/graphs themselves show the statistics, the trend of changes, relationships or other abstract information. Great importance should be attached to them.
The third significant element is the legend, a table on a map, chart, or the like, listing and explaining the symbols used.
(3) After sorting all the information, what suggestions can be given to the school?
Suggestions:
