Teaching steps:
Step 1: Lead-in
Show students some commercial ads and PAS. Then introduce the subject of this class— write an advertisement.
Step 2: Discussion
Design some parts to discuss a question— what makes a good advertisement?
Part1 A creative idea
Ask students to watch a video about KFC, then ask them to figure out why it is a good advertisement. Make a conclusion as a whole---this is because it is creative.
Part 2 Different sentence types
Ask students to read the ad about DG Real Photos on page 16 and ask them to discuss the questions as a group.
Q1: How many types of sentence are there in this advertisement?
Q2: What’s the main use of these different sentence types?
Then ask some students to make a conclusion.
Part 3Vivid pictures and some adjectives
Ask students to fill the blanks of two advertisements on page 17 and find out something in common in them. Have them think about why these two sample ads are good. Tell students that both of the ads use different sentence types and vivid pictures to make the ads more attractive.
Step 3 Presentation
After they have gotten four aspects of a good advertisement, it’s time to write their own advertisement. Supposing the students are advertisers, ask them to write an advertisement . Divide the whole class into four groups, then each group can present their advertisement on the stage. Pick the best one.
Step 4 Summary and homework
The teacher make a summary about this class and then give them the homework—preview the project part.
