Lead—in:
When it comes to learning a foreign language, we often hear such quote. Without grammar very little can be conveyed (传达), without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed. So having a large vocabulary lays a solid foundation for learning English. Here comes a most important question as to how to enlarge our vocabulary. In this class, we’re going to explore some effective ways of learning new vocabulary.
All words are not created equal. Some words are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. So we’ll put our emphasis on words that need to be chewed and digested.
Step 1: let’s take a brief look at our target words.
Be delighted; lead the way; significance; hang on; make it possible for sb to do sth;
Poisonous; compete; bring joy to sth; push the boundaries of human achievement.
Step 2: an interview
Think out of box and try to make a short interview with the following words and some other words learnt in the previous class:

First, we need to figure out the significance of exams. Tests are meant to check whether we have grasped the key points. My recipe for success exams is to have a thorough and comprehensive revision of what we’ve learnt. Based on that whole revision, I make an attempt to analyze my strengths and weaknesses objectively with the intention of avoiding my previous mistakes.

Hawking, a British physicist was known for his work dealing with black holes and relativity. He wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of Time. At the age of 22, Hawking was given only a few years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease (肌萎缩性侧索硬化症) 或(渐冻症). Eventually, he was reduced to using a wheelchair by the time he was 30 and dependent on a computerised voice system for communication.
His outstanding books have brought joy to people across the world with his attempts to push the boundaries of human achievement, which achieved widespread appeal.
