本课是Project的第一课时，主要是帮助学生理解文章扫清阅读障碍，同时锻炼学生的思维能力和口语能力。

Teaching aims:

Help students learn how to enter a new sport into the Olympics by reading the first passage.

Help students understand the sports spirit by reading the second passage

Ask students to make a speech.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Brainstorming (5min)

Raise the questions related to the Olympic events.

Q1.What sports are played in the Olympics?

Q. How do these sports enter the Olympics?

【设计说明】让学生对问题展开讨论，围绕着在奥运会中有哪些体育项目自然过渡到怎么添加新的体育项目到奥运会。

Step 2. Reading(1) (12min)

Read the passage paragraph by paragraph, and solve some reading comprehension questions.

Part 1

Q. What requirements must be met before a sport can be considered by IOC?

Three requirements:

A sport must have its own international association

A sport must be practiced by men … 75 countries … 4 continents

by women … 40 countries … 3 continents

In order for a new sport to be added, another sport must be dropped.

Part 2

Q.What sports have been removed from the Olympics? Why?

Such as baseball, power boating. Because these Sports became less popular and had to make way for new or more popular sports.
