Step1. Greetings and lead in

Greet the class as usual and show a picture of a joke to lead in the 2018 World Cup to attract the Ss’ interest.

Share some information about the World Cup, including the host countries of the 2014 and 2018 World Cup;

Step2. Presentation

Encourage the Ss to translate the following three sentences into English:

世界杯每四年举办一次。

2014世界杯是在巴西举办的。

2018世界杯将在俄罗斯举办。

（Since the reading text of the last unit is about the Olympic Games, these sentences would not be too difficult for the Ss. ）

Lead the Ss to work out:

the basic form of the passive voice;

the forms of passive voice used in simple present, simple past and simple future;

when we should use the singular or the plural forms of “be”;

Make a conclusion of what the passive voice is;

Lead the Ss to list the steps of how to change the active voice into the passive voice;

(The most difficult step is to combine the passive voice with different tenses.)
