Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Help students to review the difficult point in the reading by presenting four short videos and make them recognize different types of stand-up comedy.
Step 2 Vocabulary learning
Task1: Have students focus on Part A. In Part A, the vocabulary used on stage is introduced.
Activate students’ knowledge by asking them to match the certain vocabulary with its explanation.
Task2: Have students focus on Part B, which gives students some information related to the things on a stage.
Show them some pictures to help their understanding of the stage vocabulary.
Then give each group some performing photographs and tell students to fill in blanks about the vocabulary used on stage.
Step 3 Vocabulary extension
Have the students pretend that they are going to act out a short play for the school art festival. So they should discuss how they are going to prepare and arrange for the performance.
Tell them to use mind mapping to outline their short play.
Later, each group has to present their work on the blackboard.
Step 4 Homework
Prepare for their short play.
