Step 1: Greetings & Lead-in
1. Greet the whole class
2. Show students some pictures of the disabled, and guide them to think about what their lives feel like. (write down their answers on the blackboard) Ask students whether it is easy for them to live happy lives.
3. Show some pictures of the main character Sang Lan, and introduce her story briefly. Lead students to read the passage they will learn.
Step 2: Fast reading
Guide students to read the passage quickly and answer the two questions below:
1). What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
(To different people, the meaning of happiness is different.)
2). How many periods can Sang Lan’s life be divided into?
(Period 1: Before the accident; Period 2: While in hospital; Period 3: After leaving hospital)
Step 3: Further reading
Guide students to read the passage again and find out how Sang Lan search for happiness or what happiness means at different stages of her life.
