3. imagine our future life and write a letter to your future self.

Teaching steps:

Step1 Have students watch a video about life in the future and ask them to imagine what our future life will be. In this way, a warming up is done for the whole class, and meanwhile the topic of this section is naturally presented.

Step2 Have a check about how students grasp the pronunciations and meanings of the new words through a competition by reading the circled words one by one. This step helps cultivate students’ awareness that the pronunciation and the meaning are basic elements of English vocabulary, which shouldn’t be neglected.

Step3 Ask students to classify the new words according to their parts of speech. All the new words are divided into three different groups, adjectives, nouns and verbs. This step helps cultivate students’ awareness that besides the pronunciation and the meaning, knowing the parts of speech of a new word is also very important, which makes us have a better understanding the new words.

Step4 Help students grasp the usage of the three groups of new words. As for adjectives, we often use them to describe things. Show students some pictures and ask students to describe the picture by using proper adjectives. And fill in the blanks by using these adjectives. As for nouns, they are often used to identify something. Guide students to understand to sentences and grasp the meaning of these nouns. Help students to make some statements about their school life now and imagine their kids’ school life several years later by using these nouns. As for verbs, they are used to tell people what we do. Guide students to imagine what robots can do to make our life convenient by using the verbs. In this case, students are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the new words from part of speech to their usage through various activities. At the same time, students’ creativity and their awareness of cooperation are more likely to be developed.

Step5 Ask students to complete a passage by using the new words learned in this period, aimed at consolidating the usages of four key words.. In this way, students can have a complete idea about what they have learned today. Meanwhile, their reading ability can be honed.

Step6 Discussion in groups of four to imagine our future life thirty years later. And write a letter to your future self. One from each group is expected to stand up to give a report. Anyone doing the presentation has to use proper words or sentence structures learned today. In this case, students are using proper language in a specific situation—presenting their own opinions on correct attitudes towards future life.

Step7 Sum up by share some beautiful sentences and assign homework.
