Step 1 Lead-in
1. Make students aware of the necessity of using Chinese to help to learn English
1) Students will get puzzled when given the English definition of subjunctive mood,
2) Students will understand it easily when told that subjunctive mood is “虚拟”
2. Arouse students’ interest in subjunctive mood by comparing the following sentences in Chinese and English respectively
1). 没有她的允许,我是不会走的。(走了没有?)
2). 如果明天她来的话,我会很高兴。(她会来吗?)
3). 他看上去像喝醉了。(真醉了?)
1). I will not go without her permission
I wouldn’t have left without her permission
2). I will be very happy if she comes
I would be very happy if she came.
3). He looks as if he is drunk.
He looks as if he were drunk.
3. Tell students that subjunctive mood occurs in a variety of contexts and the focus of this session is on unreal conditionals
Step 2 Presentation
1. to state a present condition or situation that is not real or is imaginary.
1) Students interview four students around them and take notes

2) Students observe the form of the verb, and compare if-clause in real situations and impossible ones—the key is “原时变过去”.
