Step 1: General introduction
The grammar items in this unit focus on unreal conditionals. Unreal conditionals are used to express a condition or situation that is not real or is imaginary. You should pay attention to the forms of the predicate verbs in different tenses when you use sentences in unreal conditionals. You are expected to use unreal conditionals and how to use unreal conditionals correctly.
Step 2: Explanation
1. Explain the sentence structure through pictures.
What would you do if you were superman?
What might/ should you do if you got much money?
What would/ could you do if you lived on the moon?
In the above sentences, what has been said is unreal. The verb forms like these can also be called the subjunctive.
2. Find out the rules by reading examples to see how to form unreal conditionals of the present, past and future time. Use the three structures to complete related exercises.
3. Summarize unreal conditionals with “if”.
Step 3: Special cases
Focus One : We can also put should ,were and had at the beginning of an unreal conditional sentence. In this case, if is not needed.
Focus Two: Implied conditions.
Focus Three: Mixed conditions.
Step 4: Consolidation
Finish the exercises on the learning paper.
