说明文是用平实的语言客观地解说事物、阐明事理, 给人以知识的文体。它通过对实体事物的解说, 或对抽象事理的阐释, 使人们从而获得有关的知识。使人们对事物的形态、特征、构造、性能、种类、成因、功能等有所了解, 或对事理的特点、来源、演变、异同等有所认识,从而获得有关的知识。
结构特点:说明文的大体结构有:
(1)总体叙述+细节或过程说明+概括评述
(总—分—总);
现象或变化+细节或原因阐述+引发的后果和相关启示。

一.篇尾,段首,段尾处常常设题
文章的主题句经常出现在首段,段落的主题句经常出现在段首,另外,首段的末句和第二段的首句也是文章主题句的常设之处。

Languages have been coming and going for thousands of years, but in recent times there has been less coming and a lot more going. When the world was still populated by hunter-gatherers, small, tightly knit(联系) groups developed their own patterns of speech independent of each other.
