活动1 【活动】 Step 1. Search resources

A competition between boys and girls:

1. Boys are a group, who are responsible for listing advantages/benefits of TV. Girls are the other group, who are responsible for listing disadvantages/bad effects of TV.

2. After a discussion, the representative of each group collects information from his/her group members. Then two representatives list their information on the blackboard respectively.

3. The teacher checks whether the information listed on the blackboard is right, gives scores to each group according to the accuracy and quantity, and finally decide which group is the winner.

活动2 【练习】 Step 2. Write an outline

Ask students to finish an outline in which there are already some transitional words. They only need to fill in the blank with the information listed on the blackboard.

2. After several minutes, let several students show their outlines with the projector and read them aloud to others. The teacher corrects mistakes in their outlines if there is any.

3. Highlight the functions of transitional words.

活动3 【讲授】 Step 3. Expand details

1. Show a sample passage which contains the outline and some supporting details. Ask students to find out the supporting details.

2. The teacher guides students to think about the functions of supporting details. Then the teacher explains the relationship between the viewpoints and the supporting details.

3. Let all students read the passage aloud together.

活动4 【练习】 Step 4. Add a beginning and an end

1. Ask students to translate two Chinese passages into English as the beginning and the end of this essay.

2. After several minutes, let one or two students show and read their translations. The teacher praise what is well done and correct mistakes if there is any.

3. The teacher show the sample translations of the two Chinese passages and highlight the important or useful expressions in it.

活动5 【作业】 Step 5. Homework

Polish your composition and hand it in.
