Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
List some simple sentences and color some words to make students guess the learning target of this lesson.
Step 2 Introduction
Give the definition of linking verbs with two simple sentences and ask students to pay attention to the function of linking verbs and what is the most common linking verb.
Step 3 Presentation
List some other important linking verbs and give three sentences with these verbs. Ask students to translate the sentences and pay attention to the meaning of linking verbs.
Step 4 Practice (part 1)
Point out the linking verbs in each sentence. Pay attention to words following a linking verb.
Step 5 Further explanation
Give further explanation about linking verbs classified into different groups. Add more examples and ask students to do translation to find out the features, esp., the differences among these linking verbs.
Step 6 Practice (part 2)
Fill in the blanks with proper linking verbs.
Step 7 Practice
Fill in the blanks with the proper forms of the given words.
1. People stayed ________ (silence) and listened to us, and applauded at the end.

3. I cannot control my body well. My legs become ______ (pain).
4. Mary felt ________ (please), because there were many empty seats in the room.
