Cognitive demands
Students can obtain a lot of information about shortsightedness through their discussion. They can have a better understanding and application of the situation of shortsightedness as well. This class provides students with the opportunity to practice and use target language in different ways. They can ideally achieve the language acquisition by working together.
Anticipated difficulty
Due to the restriction of knowledge, it may be difficult for students to find enough approaches to protect students’ eyesight in different walks of life to finish the group work. Expressing them in a proper way is also difficult to them.
Teaching methods
This teaching plan will be carried out mainly by means of Audio-visual approach, task-based approach and student-centered teaching method.
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Instructions: This part is meant to introduce the topic of this lesson by showing them three pictures of beautiful eyes and four pictures of diseased eyes.
Activity 1 Look at the three pictures and think about the following questions.
1) Do you think they are beautiful?
2) Especially which part?
3) As the old saying gose, “Eyes are the mirror of our souls.” , eyes are important to
our life. But if your wear glasses, you may suffer from the following diseases when
you get old.
Activity 2 Look at the four pictures of diseased eyes and realize the importance of protecting
eyesight.
Step 2 Presentation of the situation
Instructions: This part is to let students get some information about the shortsightedness situation of our class – K430, and shortsightedness rate in adolescents around the world.
Activity 1 One student give a report according to the survey on his/her classmates before class, and other students are required to fill in the table with the statistics that they hear in the report.
Activity 2 Students are asked to give the answers to the blanks in the table.
Activity 3 Students are asked to answer several questions.
