Teaching procedures:
S1: Lead-in
Show students a picture of an animation which shows a cat is taking are of a sick boy to arouse students’ interest to help students reorganize what they have learnt and lead to the topic.
Ask students to make a choice between Chinese medicine of western medicine treatment and ask them to give out the reasons.
Show students a picture of the purples spots on Michael Phelps and lead the topic of the project part-Exploring Chinese medicine.
S2: Pre-reading
Ask students to predict what aspects will be included in the report if they are going to write a report about acupuncture on the basis of the content of a report learnt in the previous task part.
S3: While-reading
Ask students to check their prediction as the fast-reading task.
Ask students to read each paragraph carefully and answer the questions as their careful-reading task to check whether they have understood the main content of each paragraph to help them figure out what aspects they are going to write in their report.
Check the answers of each question and assess students’ language ability during this step.
S4: Post-reading
Ask students to write a report in the group of four on students’ worksheets
Ask each group to make sure what topic and what aspects they are going to write about.
Ask each of the students to be assigned a task to play a part in the writing task.
Ask some groups to present their work.
S5: Assignment
Ask students to find more information and write a report on another topic related to traditional Chinese medicine.
