Teaching aims:
After this class, the students will be able to:
1. Know the history of Chinese acupuncture;
2. Use some words and phrases such as sharp, let out, point, addiction, eventually, take one’s place, involve and so on;
3. Do a research on Chinese medicine and report findings to the class.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 lead-in
A small quiz on the knowledge of Chinese acupuncture.
Step 2 reading
1. Scan the passage and find which topic is not mentioned.
2. Read the passage again and finish two tasks.
(1) Complete the diagram of the development of acupuncture.
(2) Answer the following two questions:
What medical problems can acupuncture treat?
How does acupuncture reduce and relieve pain?
Step 3 language points
Learn 5 words and two phrases
Step 4 project and consolidation
Research on Chinese medicine and report findings to the class.
Explanation
本节课4个步骤分3个层次安排:step 1 热身,激活学生的有关于话题的背景知识,引入话题;steps 2-3 获取有关针灸的信息,了解中国的古老医学遗产,学习话题中的语言知识,通过完成任务培养学生的阅读方面的能力;steps 4 完成课题,体现课程learn by doing的理念,培养学生的探究精神和团队合作意识。整体教学设计体现了由知识到能力的自然过渡。
