Step one: Greetings and brainstorming
Greet with the students by talking about weather.
T: It’s getting so hot outside and I feel headache. Could you please help me remove my headache?
(Get some students to talk about their suggestions.)
Show a spider gram that informs students of effective ways to reduce headache:
Seeing a doctor; Taking some medicines; Drinking more hot water; Receiving acupuncture treatment; Ice compress; Sleep for a while.
Step two: Picture talking
Among those treatment, there is one kind that applies needles to certain parts of human bodies. Why do we call them magic needles?
(Encourage students to revoke what we have learned in last period.)
T: As we have gained an overall understanding of Chinese acupuncture, I’d like to divide you into 5 groups. Each group is supposed to retell some details of some aspects of acupuncture with some hints on your picture. What’ more important, you should tell the story in right order in accordance with the flow of the text.
(Give students 3 minutes to prepare for the task, and then ask one representative each group to describe the picture. Remark on their performance later.)
