Teaching procedures:
Step1 Lead-in
Have a free talk to introduce different means of transport.
Have students think as many means of transport as possible.
Step 2 Picture talking
Show students some pictures of different means of transport. Encourage students to use their own words to describe each one.
Step 3 Categorization
Have students categorize the different means of transport.
Step 4 Sharing information &discussion
Have students make a choice.
Situation 1 If you want to go to Nangjing from Dangtu,what means of transport will you use? Why？
Situation 2 If you are going to Taiwan from Xiamen, will you go there by ship or by plane? Why?
Have students discuss the question: What do you have to consider before you decide which means of transport you will use?
3. Group Discussion: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the popular means of transport?
4. Conclusion: we need all these different types of transport (Different types of transport can meet different customers’ needs. Each type of transport has its own strengths and limitations.)
Step 5 Vocabulary learning
Ask students to read Part A on Page 54, understanding different types of roads.
Show students some pictures of different types of roads and try to judge what type of road it is. Encourage students to describe each one with their own words.
Step 6 Vocabulary using
Ask students to read the passage in Part C and complete the introduction with the words learnt in Part A and B.
