Step 1 lead-in
Show some pictures about the traffic accidents on the screen and ask the following questions.
What should you pay attention to when you go to school by bike?
What do you need to do to avoid accidents on your way to school on foot?
If your mum/dad is a driver, what do you think she/he should or shouldn’t do when she/he drive you to school?
Step 2 reading comprehension
1. Guide students to read a public notice entitled Traffic Accidents and Road Safety. Introduce three words and give them detailed meanings. (pedestrians/ cyclists/ drivers)
2. Reading
Have students read the notice as quick as possible and find out the answers to the following questions:
What’ the notice aimed at?
What are some of the causes of traffic accidents involving vehicles?
What is the most common cause of accidents?
Why must drivers be forbidden to use the mobile phones while driving?
How do accidents involving bicycles happen?
What things should all pedestrians do?
Step 3 Discussion and presentation
Encourage students to discuss the following questions:
