T: Usually, Only when we lose someone will we find he is so important to us. It’s really bad.

Then what can do about it?

Today we are going to read a passage named “Celebration of life”, I’m sure we can find the answer from it.

Step 2 Fast reading

T: First let’s get a general idea about this passage. Tell me what type of article it is.

What type of the article is it?

A. an argumentative essay (议论文)

B. a narrative essay (记叙文)

C. an expository essay(说明文)

D. a practical essay(应用文)

T: Good. It is an argumentative essay. So while reading it, pay attention to its structure.

We know, it has six paragraphs. Now please find the correct main ideas for them.

You can discuss it with your partner. (Get Ss thinking about it)

T: Great. These paragraphs can be divided into four parts.

Now I’d like you to read the text quickly and put these paragraphs into proper parts. (1 minute for Ss to finish it individually and then check the answers)

The first part is paragraph 1, second part from paragraph 2 to 4, and third part paragraph 5. The last part is paragraph 6.

T: You’ve got it. Then think it over: Part 1 should serve as ---? Yeah, it serves as an introduction.

As usual, Part 4 should be ---? Great, it should be conclusion

Then Part 2 is about the author’s _________? Part 3 is about the author’s _______?

Please find a correct word to complete it. It is a bit difficult. Try your best! (Time for Ss to think it over)

In this part, the author expresses his thoughts and feelings, so here the word should be “thinking”. And for the third part, actually the author encourages us to do many things, so it should be author’s appeal.

(For this part, Ss are supposed to find proper answers together)

Step 3 Careful reading

T: Now we have a clear structure of the passage, and then let’s deal with these parts closely so that we can have a better understanding.
