Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Lead-in (3 min)
1. Greet the whole class as usual.
2. Enjoy a song named “When you are old” and try to understand the meaning of the poem.
Step 2 Reading (12 min)
1. Show students the poet’s portrait and arouse the students’ interest.
2. Have the students read and skim for the main idea of this article and tell how it is organized.
Paragraphs 1—4 introduction of Robert Burns
Paragraphs 5 some information about (a movement of poets called) the Romantic Movement
Paragraphs 6—7 the poem ‘A Red, Red Rose’ with its introduction and explanation
3. Detailed reading
Have the students read the report again and fill in the table in chronological order.
4. Task-based reading

1. Have the students listen to the poem A Red, Red Rose and try to understand it.
