Teaching objectives:

1. understand the plot of Turandot and analyze main characters;
2. appreciate the beauty of the language;
3. explore the theme of love.
Teaching procedures:
Step one: warming up
Let students watch a video clip from the opera Turandot.
Step two: fast reading
Get students to go through the story to find out information of characters involved and the plot.
Step three: detailed reading
(1) Ask students to share sentences that describe the three main characters they have found through reading.
(2) Invite students to act out the dialogues. Focus on the intensive contrasts of their attitudes to love.
(3) Encourage students to summarize the character development of Turandot.
Step four: critical thinking
Discuss theme of the opera and express their opinions on favorite characters.
Step five: homework
Watch the complete opera and write a short review.
