Teaching aims:
After learning this period, the students will be able to:
1. understand the given e-mail introducing five famous masters of art in Europe;
2. retell the world-famous artists mentioned above and their major works.
3.develop and consolidate the good habits of reading:Skimming ,Scanning and Careful-reading.
Step 1 Lead-in
1) Begin the class by asking students what different types of art they have learnt, and what they are. From their answers, make a summary by saying like: “Thanks to the masters of these paintings, we can live in a world full of colours and light”. “Can you name some famous Chinese artists you like or you are familiar with?” Help students to collect information about some famous Chinese painters such as: Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, etc. After that, introduce some information about them to the students .And then show them some of their works.
Step 2 Skimming and scanning for general idea
Allow the students some minutes to go through the text quickly to find the answers to the following two questions:
1. How many famous artists are mentioned in the email? Who are they?
2. How many museums are mentioned? What are they?
2) Ss try to find the answers to the questions in Part A. And help the students to find out how the text is organized and how to grasp the main information quickly .
Step 3 Careful reading for detailed information
Ask the students to read the text in detail and try to complete each artist’s profile mentioned in the passage with the help of the tables on the screen.
