Senior Two students have already been equipped with relatively rich vocabulary, but they still have some difficulty in understanding the usage of the words in various contexts, and employing them flexibly. Moreover, students in Senior Two show great interest in pieces of news of all kinds; therefore, they can be easily stimulated and motivated to accept the challenge and learn more.
Teaching objective
1. Language objective: To teach students some words and their basic meanings by providing vivid situations;
2. Learning objective: To enable students to employ some words and remember their usage through proper exercises;
3. Thinking quality: To help students develop and shape better outlook of the world;
4. Cultural quality: To help students get a glimpse of the world and enhance Ss’ cultural awareness, by acquainting students with recent heated news and events both home and abroad.

Level 2: Words to be employed:

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in Outline: Three parts are divided into: 1.words to be learned; 2.words to be employed; 3. words to be recognized
Step 2: Learning different forms and usage of the words to be learned by brainstorming
Step 3: By providing vivid situations, to help students learn the words to be employed.
Step 4: In the vivid situations, Ss are required to fill in the blank with wordlist words and guess the meaning according to the context, thus helping students learn the words to be recognized.
Step 5: Do some original exercises to consolidate what have been learnt.
Step 6: Summary.
Through this lesson, students will not only have a command of the newly learnt words, but also motivate the previous knowledge, which will help students transform the passive words into active ones; Additionally, students will be informed of the current affairs or popular trends which broaden their horizon and range of knowledge.
