教学背景分析

教材分析:

There is no set material for this class, so the teaching contents combined part of the Chinese classic novel The Story of the Stone and a short original passage.

This class is intended to show students different functions of Chinese tea and in the meantime, give students a chance to experience the different habits of drinking tea between China and the West. Tea has been mentioned over 400 times in The Story of the Stone, which gives the reason why this novel could be used as a strong material for students to learn. There will be some descriptions of tea and how people treated tea adopted from the novel. In addition, there will be a short passage talking about an American’s experience in having tea in a Chinese family indicating some cultural differences.

How Chinese value tea and taste tea is of great importance for students to know and learn in this class.

学情分析:

Students of this class are from Senior High 3. They have been preparing for the college entrance examination for a long time but they also need time to obtain knowledge outside of the text. They are curious about the new world and they are kind of active in communicating with each other.

Although they have mastered certain knowledge, they may have little idea of traditional Chinese culture due to the rapid development of globalization and lack of learning Chinese culture in English. Therefore, students may be weak in using English to introduce and spread Chinese culture. This class will be an opportunity for them to have such an experience and enrich their knowledge.

教学目标

By the end of the class, students may be able to:

tell the functions of tea in China through English;

find out the differences of drinking tea between China and the West and give proper account of that;

conclude the importance of tea in Chinese’ opinion and have the awareness of cultural differences in the mind.

教学重点

Teaching key points lie in guiding students to list the functions of tea in China and tell the differences of drinking tea between China and the West.

教学难点

Teaching difficulties lie in how to help students realize the importance of tea to Chinese people and how to have them talk about that in English.
