Learning procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in

Show Ss two groups of pictures about wedding.(PPT2)

(1) Question: What is the theme of the two groups of pictures?

Answer: Wedding.

(2) Can you notice the difference between the two groups?(PPT3-4)

Answer: One is western wedding and the other is Chinese. White is the main colour for the former while red for the latter.

Present Ss a question to think about, collect their opinions and guide them to find the answer in the reading article. (PPT6-7)

Collect Ss’s understanding of the question and help them to complete the conclusion. (PPT 6)

The same colour may carry different meanings in different cultures.

Step 2 Fast reading (PPT9-12)

Get students to go through the passage quickly and find the answers to the questions bellow.

2. What does ‘in the black’ mean?

3. What people is white usually associated with?

Answers:

1. To show the hope that their men would come home from war or other kinds of separation.

2. The idiom conveys the positive meaning of having money or that a business is making a profit.

3. People in the medical profession.
