students will be able to learn some information about the White Horse Temple;
students will be able to master some skills of writing a report and write their own report on a historic religious site.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1. Lead-in
Play a guessing game to test the students’ knowledge about some historic religious sites.
Step 2. Fast reading
Ask the students to scan the report quickly, and then summarize the structure and the main idea of each part.
Step 3. Detailed reading
Ask the students to read paragraph 1 together and fill in some blanks according to the article;
Ask the students to watch a short video clip and answer four questions;
Invite one student to read part3 and find out the features of the architecture ;
Ask the students read with the tape recording together and list some reasons why the temple is important to Chinese people and history;
Step 4. Appreciation
Read and appreciate a poem of Xingfu Temple written by Chang Jian;
Step 5. Writing a report
Ask the students to think about some useful expressions on reporting a historic religious site.
Group work: Four students form a group and write a report on a historic religious site together.
Step 6. Presentation
Invite some groups to give a presentation in the front of the classroom.
