Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in
1.Present a picture about the serious employment situation and have a discussion about it.
2. What is the first thing you would take into consideration when choosing your future career? Why?
(salary, working conditions, interpersonal relationship, working hours, personal interest in the job, the qualities you have for the job or other factors)
Step 2: Fast reading
Have students read the passage quickly and find the answers to the following three questions.
1. What does the author discuss in the article?
(Different types of career and jobs to choose from.)
2. Can you give two examples of the so-called glamorous jobs?
(A model, an actor.)
3.Which job look dull but are actually very important?
(Shopkeepers, drivers, barbers, cleaners)
Step 3: Structure
Give students some clues and have students find the structure of the passage.
