1. Teacher leads students to get access to information from listening and reading materials.
2. Teacher leads students to get involved in role-play and enhance their language competence.
3. Teacher leads students to finish the letter about artificial intelligence.
Teaching methods:
Group work, cooperative learning and process-focused writing approach.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1: Brainstorming
Teacher arouses students’ interests by showing pictures about different occupations and ask students to discuss the following questions.
Q: What’s your ideal job?
Why do you want to be a/an …?
Intention: The appealing pictures are aimed at arouse students’ interests in the topic.
Step 2: Listening for facts about a job
1. Teacher presents a photo of David Clark and ask them to guess his occupation on the basis of his clothes and then ask students to listen the material to get more information about him and fill in the charts.
2. Teacher asks students to think about the question – “what should you consider when choosing a job” in accordance with the information they get from listening.
Possible answers: qualities, reasons, working condition, salary, holiday, likes and dislikes about the job.
Intention: Listening part is designed to practice students’ listening skills and lay the foundation for discussion with respect to factors you should take into account when choosing a job.
Step 3: Reading for information about AI
1. Teacher points out the task of this lesson – If you were Crystal, you would choose Artificial Intelligence as your major. Write a letter to persuade you parents to agree with your career choice before following class activities.
2. Teacher asks students to read the passage on the paper and answer following questions.
